This portrait hangs in a private collection in New Orleans, Louisiana.
I was contacted by the mother of this dear 7-year old young girl, as she was looking for a children’s portrait artist for a surprise 50th Birthday gift of a family portrait painting to give to her husband. We plotted and planned behind the scenes: the size of the painting, how much to include of her (How about all of her!) the position over the fireplace, the actual image, the last small adjustments: then it was completed and I shipped it down to her. She was very busy with plans for a surprise 50th BD celebration, so emotions were running high: she was overwhelmed with emotion upon opening the box. It was a wonderful experience working with her and I was thrilled, as I’d been very busy behind the scenes all along the way to be sure everything was perfect.
Later, I was able to visit the family and take photos of the family portrait painting hanging in position over the fireplace. Seeing the painting, her daughter and her lovely home was a beautiful experience. In addition, her Southern warmth was so appreciated all the way through. This was one of my more moving portrait artist commissions. I’ve included the photograph I took of this young girl’s oil portrait hanging in their home.
