How do I Get my Personal or Institutional art Portrait Painted?

Are you considering hiring a portrait artist and commissioning a painting? Here are some things to think about before you hire a portrait artist. First, with the right seasoned top portrait artist who’s work appeals to you, getting your portrait painted is not as difficult as it might seem. I frequently travel to my portrait clients to collect photographic reference. With the high-resolution photographs of today, enduring endless portrait sittings is a thing of the past. I do my work by using photographs and sometimes a painted portrait sketch for coloring/character of the portrait sitter. With my 5-star Google reviews and testimonials (https://soniahale.com/testimonials/), you’ll see that the process works very well.

In addition, I do work with client’s photographs and paint portraits from photos. Just send me the highest resolution images that you have to soniahale1@gmail.com and we can discuss size and pricing. You can also call me to discuss a portrait commission: 617-365-6349.

How much does it cost to Commission a Portrait?

When people ask how much for a portrait painting, here are the things that affect my portrait pricing:

—size of the finished portrait painting

—how much of each figure is included (head and shoulders, 3/4 figure which includes hands, but not feet or full length which is the entire figure)

—how many figures are in the oil or pastel portrait painting

—timing of the commissioned portrait, if it is a RUSH project

It is best to contact me to discuss details of a planned portrait commission to be sure of my pricing for your commission. Generally unless a custom oil portrait is small, my oil and pastel portrait fees start at $5000. With smaller hand painted portraits from photo portrait commissions, sometimes they run in the about $1000+ range. Pet portraits start at $500.

How do you Paint a Commissioned Portrait?

I work with my sketches and photographs to create life-like portrait paintings. I sketch the image in charcoal first on the canvas and usually send an email image of that to my portrait clients for compositional approval. From there I start on the face of the portrait subject and gently add surrounding colors in large brush strokes so that I can get a feel for where the color is headed and a feeling of being in place. Each day I work to refine my prior day’s work painting the portrait commission. When the piece is completed, I either meet with my client to show them the portrait or email them an image of it. When there are no requested adjustments, the custom oil portrait is delivered.

How long will it take for me to get the Completed Oil Portrait Painting?

Anywhere from 2 -6 months. It’s always best to check in with me to see how my schedule is for a list of commissioned portrait. Occasionally I’m available for a rush portrait commission.
