Award-winning portrait artist, Sonia, paints custom oil portraits internationally. She is a commissioned portrait painter for those on the East coast, including many states in the South and in addition, her work hangs in collections internationally. Her portraits have hung in international portrait competitions in Duluth, GA and Marietta, GA, as well as in Manhasset, New York, where they received Finalist Awards; thus gaining national attention and acclaim. She paints official and family portraits, children’s portraits in oil and pastel, as well as landscapes, seascapes and floral paintings. Sonia is a graduate of Colby College in Waterville, Maine, where she double-majored in English and Art, although she was accepted to Tufts University’s Engineering program. Her painting style was favorably noted upon by her teachers at the Museum of Fine Arts School in Boston, Massachusetts. Sonia is a third-generation student of John Singer Sargent. She studied at the New York Art Students’ League in New York City, as well as at the Copley Society in Boston, Massachusetts, and on a national basis including southern locations with famous portrait artists of our time with lineage going back to JSS; and was mentored for five years.
Sonia is a member of the Portrait Society of America, the National Arts Club of New York, the Portrait Society of Atlanta (Atlanta, Georgia); Oil Painter’s of America; the Artist’s Fellowship of New York, the Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists (Greenwich, Connecticut) and Wellesley Society of Artists (Wellesley, Massachusetts). She enjoys events such as the Boston International Fine Art Show, the conference of the Portrait Society of America and Connecticut Society of Portrait Artist events and participating in national portrait events time-permitting. Some noteworthy events have included having her portraits displayed in Manhasset, NY, Duluth, GA and Marietta, GA, where they received Finalist awards; painting in Greenwich, CT for the Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists & Greenwich Art Council “Arts to the Avenue,” as well as demonstrating for the Wellesley Society of Artists in Wellesley, MA; and exhibiting works in Greenwich, CT and Westport, CT, and at Page-Waterman Gallery in Wellesley, MA. She has also enjoyed the opportunity to paint in Vermont with the Putney Painters as a guest artist.
